ValuesJam Fanzine Edition 37
Value of the month:
While our value of the month is Relationships, we are also celebrating the Twelve Values of the Festive Season
As we approach a time of year when many people will be enjoying festive celebrations there is an English Christmas carol called The Twelve Days of Christmas.
In the ValuesJam studio, we identified these twelve values to celebrate at this time of the year: Compassion, Creativity, Peace, Enjoyment, Faith, Generosity, Gratitude, Inclusion, Kindness, Relationships (including Family & Friendship), Patience and Love.
However you will be spending the next few weeks, all best wishes from the ValuesJam studio for a restful, peaceful and enjoyable time and we are looking forward to opening Chapter 2025 with the ValuesJam band.

ValuesJam Guide for Communities
ValuesJam have created a FREE guide for communities which can be downloaded from our website: https://values-jam.com/
New Year resolutions? As you know, it is our ambition to create harmony all over the world by inspiring one million values-led conversations. How many ValuesJam sessions have there been so far? Please let us know how many you have had. If every current ValuesJammer has just one ValuesJam per month that would be nearly two thousand ValuesJams per year and “we’ve only just begun” (did you see what we did there)? What could your New Year’s ValuesJam resolution be?
ValuesJam The Guest Sessions Series 2024 You can see this year’s Guest Sessions at ValuesJam The Guest Sessions Series – YouTube and there have been some fantastic ValuesJams published every Sunday. Please suggest people who you think would make a good guest: relaxed, open, could be well known, connected or with a large network. Check out these two very different sessions from November Recogition and Forgiveness As soon as the postal service strike is over in Canada, Linda Simpson will be shipping ValuesJam orders to folk in Canada from the Edmonton ValuesJam studio so the cards arrive quicker, at lower cost and with less carbon impact on the planet.

Did you know?
Lingo
You will have noticed that there is a ValuesJam language and here is a guide to help you be ‘in the know’. You will notice the close connection with the language you hear in music circles because of the connection with a music jam eg vibe, play, tune, track, riff, setlist, gig, mic, spotlight etc:
ValuesJam – a playful card game which connects people through values-led conversation
ValuesJammer – somebody who plays the ValuesJam card game
ValuesJamming – playing the ValuesJam game
ValuesJam Founder Member – the first ValuesJammers who signed up right at the beginning of the journey
ValuesJammer Band – the ValuesJammer community as a whole
ValuesJam Stage – any place where ValuesJam is played eg home, club, church, office, factory, bar/restaurant
You will notice that ValuesJam is one word with an upper case V and J. It is always used in full rather than a Jam or Jamming.

Favourite Lyrics
ValuesJam has a close connection with music and ValuesJam card words are used in so many songs. For many people at this time of the year, family is important, whether this is in the traditional sense or a ‘sense of family’ with other people so enjoy this track from the seasonally well-named Sister Sledge 🤣 🎄 https://youtu.be/jdsqht1m1rE
What are your favourite tracks with a values connection? Perhaps we could create a ValuesJam playlist!

What are your core values?
My first core value is family… I do not think I need to say much more, it speaks for itself 😊
After that, my core values are:
Freedom: freedom to be myself, to be who I want to be and to develop into the person that I want to become
Courage: I hope and wish to have the courage to do the right thing, not the easy thing; to have the courage to follow the right path, however difficult it may be, the path of authenticity and integrity
Curiosity: I try to approach situations with an open mind a thirst for learning and discovering. It has served me well and I love that everyone I meet on my journey has something to teach me
Adaptability: flexibility, elasticity… over the years, I have come to embrace change in a different way. Holding on to my core values and needs but not fretting about how I do it
Positive impact: it is important to me that I contribute positively to society, in whatever small way I can
Why did you join the ValuesJam community?
Living a life in line with my values, in true authenticity means a lot to me. So, it made sense to join a community of like-minded people to promote values and how we can live them more fully.
How are you using your ValuesJam card decks?
I use the cards decks for myself and my family as well as when working with clients:
– Myself / family: I like to check-in regularly to see where I am at and what is important to me at that point. Whilst my core values remain unchanged, I often pick different cards and that helps me get an insight into what is going on for me. I also encourage my family to use them as a self-discovery ‘game;’ teenagers love it!
– When working with clients: It is a useful self-development tool for clients, it can help them get a better understanding of their core needs and values The word ‘values’ can be rather abstract for some of us, so giving the card deck to my clients helps them learn about what is important to them, what gives meaning to their life and underpins their decisions. It may look daunting as there are quite a few cards but actually, clients sieve through them quickly, instinctively. They know immediately which ones to discard, and which ones resonate with them. They may be left with anything between 10 and 20 cards and from there, we can start a conversation. If pertinent, I may use visualisations and guided meditations to help the client explore how they live their values in their everyday life, and how they can be even more in line with them.
Favourite rock n roll moment of magic from a ValuesJam session?
It may not be what you are looking for, but I really enjoyed ‘The Question Guy Podcast’ with Alan did The Question Guy Podcast! And the Story Behind ValuesJam!. It was like he was putting words to how I feel about values and what they mean to me.
How could better RELATIONSHIPS improve the world?
Better relationships with others start by building a better relationship with ourselves.
Getting to embrace who we are, in complete benevolence, kindness and non-judgment helps us to interact with others in the same way.
Societal change starts with every single one of us – the more we know ourselves, the better we can connect with each other and build deep, meaningful relationships. The more empathic we are, the more we welcome others. We start to embrace them with all their uniqueness and differences and thus contribute to building a more inclusive and fairer society.
