What are your favourite song lyrics about Happiness?
Here’s some to get you started:
Huh (Because I’m happy)
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
(Because I’m happy)
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
(Because I’m happy)
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
(Because I’m happy)
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do
Happy

Who are you?
Paul RYKEN
What are your core values?
In no particular order, I value and prioritise the following: Continuous learning, sustainability, financial independence, integrity and wellbeing.
Why did you join the ValuesJam community?
Taking about values in general and your own values specifically can help in reinforcing why and how they impact you and what you can do to reinforce them. This community shines a light on Values that are sometimes not front of mind, so it allows me to learn and relate to others’ points of views.
How are you using your ValuesJam card decks?
I use the cards several ways. When I’m feeling uncomfortable or uneasy, I review the relevant card and try and answer the questions. When I’m researching to write an article or blog post or be interviewed on a podcast, I use the questions to really dig down into the WHY. And recently in our annual personal strategy meeting, we reviewed our common core values to validate if they were truly still what was important to us as a couple.
Fave rock n roll moment of magic from a ValuesJam session
Asking the hard questions and reflecting on the answers provided by a complete stranger. It reconfirms that we are all unique, but also that we want similar outcomes in life.
How could more HAPPINESS improve the world?
Striving for and being happy are two different things. To be content is to be happy. And to be content, you need to accept things in your life that are sometimes out of your control. If we were all happier, we would be more giving (of time), more accepting (of others), more content. We would communicate more with our friends and family. Not compare ourselves with the Janes’. Not think that we were the best or shout down or call others’ names who challenged our thinking. Happiness engenders peace and harmony.
What drew you to adopt the ValuesJam card Connection with Nature?
In owning very little and practising minimalism, intentionality and permaculture principles, I have time to considering my purchasing behaviour – what items are made of, who makes them, why we own certain items, what impact they item has in being made and what happens to it once it has outgrown its usefulness. We need to look after the finite planet we are on as well as the people in our lives and we must stop the greed and excesses caused by excessive consumerism. I can help by providing awareness and education of the impacts of our choices. I can demonstrate the benefits of Connection with Nature. I can act as a role model in environmental awareness. And I do.
How can people find out more about your work?
My work can be found at www.MinimalistJourneys.com and through the various social media platforms using the handle MnJourneys.
