What is World Values Day?
World Values Day is an annual campaign to increase the awareness and practice of values around the world.
Values are what matter most to us. They motivate and guide us. They are the passion in our hearts, the reason we do the things we do.
In a world that can feel increasingly divided, values help unite us. They are the glue holding together our communities and wider society.
The theme this year is Bringing Values to Life. So on World Values Day let’s put our values into action, reaching across the growing barriers that divide us to build stronger communities and a more united world. Celebrations take place from 1-31 October and ValuesJam is a great way to be involved with values-led conversations in your community.
ValuesJam co-founder Alan Williams is once again embarking on the ValuesJam Challenge where he will attempt to have 31 ValuesJam sessions in October starting on 1 October with a ValuesJam with UK Values Alliance colleagues Charles Fowler and Neil Tomalin.
People loved the Gratitude playlist last month so here is a playlist from @liam Flynn about living life which we think is a close fit with Bringing Values To Life 31 Best Songs About Life & Living It (Of All Time) – Music Grotto Check out I can See Clearly now by Johnny Nash which reminded us of this quote
‘When your values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier.’

ValuesJammer in the Spotlight
ValuesJammer in the Spotlight is co-founder Alan Williams, ValuesJammer 000001
Who are you?
I am a values practitioner and father of four amazing grown up children. I enjoy travel, photography, good food and wine and football (soccer).
I design and implement values-driven concepts and operating models to create lasting impact for individuals, organizations and communities. In practice, this looks like a variety of diverse activities ranging from connecting people through values-led conversation with the playful ValuesJam card game, to helping individuals bring their values to life with the my31Practices approach, to helping organizations deliver better service with the CX in ConteXt development programme, to celebrating values with World Values Day, giving youth a voice through the creative arts with the Voices of Tomorrow initiative and others. I would love to explore any of these further according to what makes you curious.
What are your core values?
Excellence, Creation, Kindness, Adaptability and Enjoyment
Why did you join the ValuesJam community?
At a World Values Day planning meeting, people were talking about the value of values-led conversations but nobody could explain how to do this. I had the idea to create a card game and invited anybody to work with me on this. Lisa Birtles was interested and.long story short, we created ValuesJam together.
How are you using your ValuesJam card decks?
I run a Valuesjam Guest Session Series https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geQArsHxkN8&list=PLEqpRBgYB8PJAti_z19kMotaVADy5EQg0&pp=gAQBiAQB which is published every week. The ValuesJam card decks are also extremely versatile so can be used in numerous ways from values sorting to sorter or longer one to one conversations to small or large group sessions.
Favourite rock n roll moment of magic from a ValuesJam session?
I still love the reaction from people who choose a card at random and then say something like “Wow. I journalled on this just this morning” or similar
How could greater commitment to Bringing Values to Life improve the world?
It seems that much progress has been made over the last ten years in the level of attention that the topic of values receives and people have a much greater awareness of the value of values. At the same time, this often seems to be a surface level or limited level of interest and the next step is to see more energy and commitment being put into bringing values to life in practice. Values are for living not laminating.
