World Gratitude Day was invented in 1965 by Sri Chinmoy, a spiritual leader and meditation teacher. It was conceived at a Thanksgiving dinner in the United Nations’ meditation room.

Who are you?
I am Randy McNeely, better known as Captain Kindman, an author, speaker, producer, songwriter, and passionate advocate for growing love through kindness. I am co-founder of Kindness Factor Productions, creating positive, inspiring media and stories designed to touch hearts and make a difference around the world.
Drawing on my own experience with the lifesaving power of love, I created the Courageous Kindness Operating System (CKOS)—a practical framework built around four simple actions: SEE, CARE, DO, SHARE.
Whether wearing my signature red cape, speaking, producing inspirational media, writing, or connecting with people in everyday life, Captain Kindman is committed to helping people intentionally grow and deliver love through kindness.
My message is simple: Kindness delivers love. Love opens hearts. Open hearts change lives.

Why did you join the ValuesJam community?
I joined the ValuesJam community at the invitation of Alan Williams. At first I didn’t know what to expect. After taking part, I realized it was a fantastic opportunity to have some wonderful conversations, in depth conversations, around values that impact our every day lives. I really enjoyed it.
How are you using your ValuesJam card decks?
I’ve been using my ValuesJam card deck for simulating conversations with my wife and kids. It’s been interesting to hear their thoughts and viewpoints on various topics. I’ve learned new things from their perspectives when I was complacent enough (or maybe arrogant enough) to think I “knew everything.”
Fave rock n roll moment of magic from a ValuesJam session?
I had a great discussion with my wife and daughters about gratitude and all the ways it can and does impact us. It was interesting to see how many ways, unexpected ways, we could recognize gratitude.
How could more GRATITUDE improve the world?
If there were more gratitude in the world, I firmly believe there would be a tremendous increase in love. Gratitude is a behavior embraced by kindness. Kindness is the spark that ignites love. Every expression of gratitude is a kindness spark.
